Description:

Pedernales Cellars is one of the premier wine producers in the state of Texas. The winery, located in Stonewall, Texas, produces a range of award-winning red and white wines. Our winery sources 25+ tons of fruit annually from its 16-acre estate, Kuhlken Vineyards, which is located about 30 miles from the winery in Fredericksburg. Our small vineyard team is currently seeking the addition of an Assistant Vineyard Manager to provide support for daily tasks, including drip line maintenance, mowing, spraying, pruning, shoot tucking, equipment maintenance, netting and harvest logistics. While vineyard experience is preferred, a background in other agricultural work may be substituted as relevant. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Essential Functions:

Help manage all aspects of vineyard/crop management – crop yield estimates, trellis maintenance, pruning, tying, soil health, floor and canopy management, pest control, and harvest management.

Search out and evaluate vineyard problems and make recommendations that provide effective, timely and economic solutions that deliver quality fruit.

Monitor crops for insect and disease pressure and work with Vineyard Manager to implement fungicide and pesticide programs.

Assist in requisitioning, operating and maintaining all tools, equipment and vehicles.

Ensue compliance with State and Federal regulations that are vineyard specific.

Assist in winemaking/cellar duties when needed.

Assist with the maintenance, repair, and calibration of all equipment used in the field

Maintain vineyard cleanliness, including the shop and grounds surrounding the vineyard

Take on special projects as assigned by the Vineyard Manager

Participate in continuing education and industry events to stay current on trends, regulations, and community issues

Working Conditions:

Moderate to heavy physical work.

Standing long periods of time (8 hours per day)

Must comply with all safety equipment requirements including ear plugs and safety glasses as needed

Extensive walking and lifting up to 55 pounds.

Exposure to various chemicals used in shops and vineyard equipment.

Exposure to machinery, forklifts and related production equipment.

Occasional long and irregular hours or on various shifts associated with farming/harvest.

Exposure to outside elements (heat, wet and or damp conditions, cold).

Preferred Skills/Experience:

Vineyard/ranch and/or agricultural experience and operations knowledge

Conversational in Spanish/English

Experience operating farm equipment

Ability to work independently but also strong team player

Experience with MS word, MS Excel
