Job Description:

Summary:

The Vineyard Supervisor will report to the Winemaker and perform general level operation of tractor driving under the Winemaker’s supervision. The Vineyard Supervisor will be involved in the planting and maintenance of vineyards, which involves preparing the soil, erecting trellis and irrigation equipment and planting. The Vineyard Supervisor will perform routine tasks on the vineyard including but not limited to, cultivating, fertilizing the soil, planting, training, pruning vines, and picking grapes.

Compensation: $22.00- $25.00 hourly DOE + Lodging on the property is included if needed

Schedule:

•  Schedule varies.

•  Up to 6-days per week/10 hours a day.

•  May require seasonal night work & extended hours during harvest.

Duties:

•  Operate tractors to perform tasks such as chopping, mowing, spraying/dusting, harvesting, leaf removal, under vine cultivation, standard cultivation, and placing implements

on tractors & equipment.

•  Operate forklifts, vehicles, machinery by adhering to the safety practices and policies. Report equipment or machinery breakdowns to the Facilities Manager.

•  Calibrate the cultivation equipment in the field, in conjunction with the Vineyard Manager.

•  Spray and dust for application of various chemicals which includes all aspects of the task; mixing load, filling sprayer/duster, being safety conscious of drift during

application, and cleaning of sprayer/duster.

•  Perform daily equipment checks and some light mechanic skills are required.

•  During winter months, driver may be required to assist in the maintenance and/or working with hand crew or in winery.

Position Requirements

•  Follow the directive of the Winemaker and provide supervision at times to hand crews.

•  Be a proactive communicator with the crew supervisor, mechanics, agriculturist, winemaker, and vineyard manager.

•  Be knowledgeable of vineyard maintenance cycle such as pruning, harvesting, planting, leafing, tying, thinning, trellis repair, etc.

•  Demonstrate reliability and punctuality.

•  Work collaboratively and effectively in team environment and adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures.

•  The ability to work late night & early morning shifts, to accommodate application of materials to plants.

•  Forklift certification required.

Physical Requirements:

•  The ability and willingness to lift and carry 50 lbs. as needed.

•  The ability and willingness to drive tractors/ ATVs to assigned vineyard and work locations and able to work in all weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold,

wet and windy.

•  The ability and willingness to walk and perform physical work in vineyards with steep and/or uneven terrain, mud, dust and soil.

•  The ability and willingness to sit in tractor for extended periods of time. Respirator clearance required. Safety toe footwear required.

Education

•  Basic writing and reading.

•  Ability to safely understand safety signs and other regulatory and internal forms.
