California Sales Manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Job Description:

Morgan Winery is a family owned and operated winery based in Monterey County. We are looking for a self-motivated wine professional to oversee California wholesale sales. This is a remote position that requires regular travel throughout California, and the ideal candidate resides within the state. This position reports directly to the winery’s Director of Sales. This is a salaried, full-time position, with a competitive compensation package that will include an annual bonus opportunity, mileage and travel reimbursement, matching 401k program upon qualification, and eligibility for company medical, dental, and vision insurance upon qualification.

Position Responsibilities:

Execute an overall sales strategy at the account and wholesale/broker level.

Achieve sales by cultivating and maintaining relationships with distributor/broker management, sales staff, and key on and off premise accounts.

Identify potential key accounts and execute strategic direct sales.

Conduct annual goal setting meetings and track progress with quarterly wholesale/broker review meetings.

Ensure that proper distributor/broker pricing, programming, and incentives are in place to meet and exceed winery sales goals.

Represent the Morgan brand and provide support to wholesaler/broker and accounts through wine tastings, dinners, events, trade shows, general sales meeting, staff training, etc. Present samples and occasionally deliver wine as needed.

Periodically support the company needs at winery, vineyard, tasting room, and off-site consumer events. Provide occasional assistance with organization, sales, and inventories.

Ensure timely submission of expense reporting, adhere to T&E budgets, prepare regular reports on sales performance, market recap, and forecasting. Understand P&L statements.

Qualifications and skills:

Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in wine sales; previous supplier experience is desirable.

Understanding of retail pricing strategies and margins for different regions within the sales territory.

Ability and willingness to travel regularly to all California sales territories; travel approximately 50% of the time.

Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills. Comfort with public speaking and presentations in front of large and small audiences.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Technology proficiency that allows for effective use of standard business programs and sales reporting systems, including but not limited to the Microsoft 365 suite, virtual meeting software (Zoom, GoogleMeet, Teams), and VIP/iDig.

Ability to meet logistical and physical requirements of territory wine sales, including lifting and carrying up to 40lbs and prolonged travel.
