Job overview
We are opening a new bar/restaurant in Naples, FL and seeking a skilled and dynamic Assistant-Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about wines and craft beers, possess excellent customer service skills and a strong collaborative mindset.
Critical duties
As an Assistant-Sommelier, you will be responsible for wine and food service, engaging with customers, and maintaining a clean and organized bar and service area.
You will greet customers, understand their preferences, recommend menu items, prepare and serve beverages and food (when needed) and process customer payments.
You will also upsell items, utilize proper equipment and ingredients when preparing food, and handle basic cleaning duties.
You will finally assist with inventory management and menu curation.
You will work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a smooth operation.
As an Assistant-Sommelier, you have a professional appearance and an engaging, friendly personality. You are efficient, observant, knowledgeable, and personable.
Detailed duties
The below duties will be performed following the procedures outlined in the S&OP manual.
Welcome guests in a warm and friendly manner, and seat them comfortably.
Identify customers' preferences and make appropriate menu recommendations to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all guests.
Process customer payments accurately, handle cash responsibly, and provide correct change. Ensure that all transactions are properly accounted for in the POS system.
Assist in monitoring and managing bar inventory, preparing orders for wine, beer and supplies.
Assist in curating wine, beer and food menus.
Stay informed about trends in the wine and craft beer industry and share your knowledge with the rest of the team.
Adhere to all local and state regulations regarding the sale and service of alcoholic beverages, in particular verifying the age of customers to ensure legal drinking age compliance.
Qualifications
Proven successful experience in a bar/restaurant business as a Sommelier or Bar-Keeper.
Excellent customer service (attention to detail) and communication skills.
Ability to use POS systems. Previous experience with Toast and Tapped valued.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations for food and beverage preparation.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WSET 2 in wine or similar certification is a strong plus.
