Wine & Beer Associate (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Hourly position, LEVEL II $10.76-$16.76

JOB SUMMARY: 

• Provide excellent customer service and sales assistance for the Wine/Beer Departmentthrough customer interaction, merchandising, and cashiering.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Experience or specific knowledge of wine/beer required.
• Retail experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of cash registers.
• Must successfully pass criminal background check.
• Familiarity with natural foods and products preferred.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department.
• Ability to consistently be at work and on time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CUSTOMER SERVICE 

• Exhibit, coach, and reinforce world class customer service at all times.
• Work cooperatively in all situations with the general manager, managers, staff, and customers.
• Demonstrate high standards of ethics, honesty, trust, accountability and respect.

DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Display good general knowledge of all sales and service aspects of the Wine/Beer Department.
• Receive and stock products using department guidelines for merchandising, rotation, and pricing.
• Follow department procedures for handling new products and price changes.
• Process special orders.
• Follow all cash handling procedures using cash register and credit card machine.
• Uphold state regulations concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages. •
• Handle product credits and returns.
• Maintain accurate and attractive signage in the department.
• Assist with inventories as requested.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
• Maintain respectful communications with co-workers.
• Practice behaviors that exhibit a strong work ethic and encourage teamwork.
• Attend all department meetings.
• Observe safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions. 
• Keep department orderly and clean.
• Adhere to all Idaho laws regarding food safety and sanitation.
• Wear proper clothing during shift, including nametag, adhering to standards as specified in the Boise Co-op Employee Handbook. 
• Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as specified in the Boise Co-op Employee Handbook.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

• Prolonged standing.
• Ascend/Descend ladders.
• Frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Push/pull wheeled carts up to 150 pounds.
• Ability to tolerate varying temperatures working with refrigerated or frozen products.
• Operate box cutter, handcart, pallet jack, cash register.
• Hearing required to converse with customers and co-workers.
• Identify clearly bar codes, shelf tags, expiration dates, and product labels.
• Distinguish color for quality control; ability to smell product to identify spoilage.
• Peripheral vision and depth perception.
