The Wine Business Development Manager, in collaboration with the Director of Wine & Sales, is responsible for the strategic development and sales growth of the Burrows Lightbourn wine portfolio and meeting sales and profitability targets for the wholesale division. The successful candidate also supports the rest of the account sales team in creating opportunities within the overall wine portfolio to improve distribution, positioning and ultimately grow margins.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly manage a portfolio of wine focused accounts in the on and off-trade and ensure maximization of sales volumes and profitability. Recommend, set and maintain sales projections on an ongoing basis.
- Create and execute a field activity plan in order to cultivate customer relationships and achieve maximum service levels and sales results. Capture all relevant data in CRM tool including competitive activities.
- Set priorities at the account level to determine the most profitable opportunities. Propose deals and programs for approval, pitch and negotiate with accounts, implement, and monitor subsequent profitability results against targets.
- Support Account Managers & Brand Activation Managers in capturing and maintaining wine sales and market share. Recommend selling, promotional and merchandising opportunities.
- Provide input to and execute wine marketing plans and activations through traditional on-trade / off-trade accounts, e-commerce, social media channels etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
• Minimum WSET Level 3 or similar wine certification.
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related discipline is preferred.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
Job-Related Experience
• Minimum 5 years of wholesale sales experience in premium wine and also preferably in spirits. Proven experience selling into major accounts including premium restaurants, bars, hotels, retailers & chains and consistently meeting volume and profitability targets.
Computer Skills
• MS Office proficient including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experienced with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms for tracking account activities, opportunities and sales results is preferred.
Skills/Attributes
• Goal-oriented, confident and assertive individual who needs a little direction or supervision.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to calculate pricing discounts, A&P investments, profitability structures and ultimately ROI on programs.
• Experience in developing successful wine lists for premium on-trade accounts.
Target $100,000 (USD) base salary plus variable commissions.
