Job Description:

Since 1993, Archery Summit, has been committed to producing exceptional Pinot Noir from the unique growing conditions of the Willamette Valley and Dundee Hills. We focus on crafting some of the finest and most luxurious Pinot Noirs in the world, with an emphasis on quality, sustainability, and innovation.

Position Summary:

The Winemaker at Archery Summit will oversee all aspects of winemaking, vineyard sourcing, and production to maintain the highest standards of quality. The role involves directing winemaking operations, optimizing estate vineyard use, managing budgets, and ensuring the production of world-class wines. The Winemaker will work closely with Sales, Marketing, and other stakeholders to align on strategy, quality goals, and market positioning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Winemaking & Quality Assurance (50%)

•  Lead all winemaking activities with a focus on exceptional Pinot Noir production.

•  Manage viticulture practices, harvest decisions, and grape processing to yield the highest quality wines.

•  Oversee blending, packaging, and bottling processes, ensuring quality control.

•  Create and implement SOPs and maintain traceability for quality and cost management.

Estate Vineyard Optimization (25%)

•  Review and manage estate farming plans to ensure optimal grape quality and environmental practices.

•  Source purchased grapes and manage vineyard relationships.

•  Review and update the five-year viticultural plan, ensuring balance between quality and cost.

Budgeting & Cost Management (15%)

•  Develop and manage operational and capital budgets to align with quality and margin goals.

•  Optimize production costs, balancing quality with environmental and financial goals.

•  Track variances and collaborate with other departments to refine strategies.

Leadership & Collaboration (10%)

•  Mentor and guide the winemaking team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

•  Communicate regularly with estate stakeholders and lead key meetings.

•  Collaborate with HRBP on HR initiatives, coaching and development of staff, employee relations or other staff related matters.

•  Represent the estate at industry events and contribute to company-wide initiatives.

•  Foster a culture of accountability, aligning with company values.

Qualifications

•  Education: Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, or related field (Master’s preferred). Additional backgrounds in Business, Agricultural Science, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management a plus.

•  Years of Experience: 10+ years in winemaking with experience managing a team of 6 people.

•  Strong understanding of luxury wine production and market positioning.

•  Proven track record of producing wines at the elite competitive level (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, etc.).

•  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

•  Exceptional leadership with experience developing high-performing teams.

•  Commitment to fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.

•  Ability to collaborate with the high performing winegrowing team of the Crimson Wine Group.
